Film Critic Oddly Offended By Homosexual Themes

Former Mayor Ed Koch, in his current role as movie critic, seems displeased with recent release Another Gay Movie:

Nathan Lee's review of this film in The New York Times was interesting. He wrote: "What follows is a rude, rollicking and exceedingly raunchy attempt to turn 'American Pie' into 'American Quiche.'"

"American Pie" was an extraordinarily funny, albeit raunchy, movie. It was written with intelligence and great humor and was attractive to mainstream audiences. "Another Gay Movie," however, is not good from any point of view. It is simply trash and so gross that it loses any intended humor.

Cheer up, Ed! Clearview Chelsea's showing a revival of My Own Private Idaho. Just be sure to take Bess Myerson along with you so nobody gets the wrong idea.

Sacked HIV+ gay man sues McDonald's

A 44-year-old man in Iowa has claimed he was physically and verbally abused because of his HIV status and then sacked from his job in a McDonald's restaurant.

Daniel Carver has filed a complaint with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission alleging he was fired because of his sexuality and HIV+ status.

He is seeking damages for disability and employment discrimination.

Since last year gay people in Iowa have been legally protected from discrimination at work.

Mr Carver claims being HIV+ is a physical disability.

He was sacked in February after four months.

He claims he was given reduced hours, called names and threatened and was punched by a manager at the McDonald's restaurant in Dryersville.

The Iowa Telegraph Herald reported:

"He claims it started with a failed promise to be promoted to manager and a full-time schedule slashed to 10 to 15 hours per week.

"A manager punched him in the stomach and a fellow employee called him a ‘faggot rat’ and slapped him with a piece of cheese.

"Then, the discrimination escalated into death threats from fellow employees."

A spokesperson for Karpinski Enterprises, the owner of the McDonald's in Dyersville, told KCRG TV that the accusations are unfounded.

Gay sex comedy comes to the West End

A play about online encounters is to open in London's main theatre district next month.

Blowing Whistles by Matthew Todd opens at Leicester Square Theatre on 23 October following sell-out productions in Australia and the USA.

The comedy's popularity reflects the universal appeal of online cruising.

It's the evening before Gay Pride and thirty-something couple Nigel and Jamie celebrate their ten-year anniversary by inviting internet date Mark to share their bed for the night.

Mark's desperate search for something more than a one-night stand in a world where romance is all but dead makes Jamie begin to question the stability of his relationship and whether he may have found himself looking for love in all the wrong places.

Blowing Whistles was written by Matthew Todd, editor of Attitude, the UK's biggest selling gay lifestyle magazine.

It will play at the Leicester Square Theatre from 23rd October to 29th November.
